Surfing has risen to be a popular sport today as acclaimed by people from all over the world. It lets in a rush of adrenaline for those who love thrills and adventures. Surfing same as all other sports requires techniques specifically for any surfer to perform it well.

Like any other sport it has its own origins but in surfing there are no clear details of how it started and who invented int. James King, an American expeditionist, in his accounts dating back to as early as 1779 revealed that locals of Kealakekua Bay in the island of Hawaii had been riding huge waves using wooden boards. It is believed by many that the best surfer was also the chief and he owned the best board you could find in the island.

In the recent times, surfing has become a widely accepted sport with so many enthusiasts, as a matter of fact, it has been considered to be part of the Olympic Games, but it’s still subject to debates. Basically, surfing holds a lot of promises for this sport’s enthusiasts as well as for those who would love surf adventures. But what does one has to do for him to turn into a master?

Just like every other sport one must know the game really well, and the same thing with a mountaineer before he climbs a mountain, he must be fully aware of the terrain, in the same way, a surfer must know the different waves before taking the surf adventures. Putting safety first before putting up a show for not all waves are favourable for surfing. There are three basic types of waves and one of which is the shore dump wave which rises as it draws near the shore as it has a sharp rise but won’t be able to hold long as it abruptly slams back to the shallow part with such incredible impact. This type of wave is not meant for surfing since it is more likely to cause injuries to the surfer and the swimmers in the shallow waters too.

Another kind of wave is called the rolling waves which originate in the deep and goes to shore in moderate intensity, and since it doesn’t abruptly die it gives surfers ample time to ride it. This type of wave is the one ideal for your surfing adventures.

Finally, we have surging waves, these are the not so high ones and they continue to hit the beaches and oftentimes an indication of a coming storm.

Having known the basic types of waves, you can go and find your own surf adventures and make them as memorable as it can be. But still keep safe so that you’ll still have the chance to tell people about your surf adventures.
